    Older chickens like to roost at least 3 to 4 feet up usually. If a predator
    were to get in your coop, hopefully they are high enough to be safe. This
    will depend on where you live, if these are urban chickens in a backyard,
    you probably only need to worry about coons and opossums.

    work and they nest in the cabinet like I hoped.

    to convince them to lay eggs in your cabinets if you have the eggs in
    there, and then put them up in there to nest.
