Looks good. I was supposed to have my coop done last year but Mike got
deployed so I’m hoping to get it this spring.. unless he gets deployed
again.. or maybe I could borrow your foreman and get it done without him! I
kinda miss having the kids around to help :)

  4. PopPrepper says:

I like my eggs over easy!….. Looks like a great start brother, those
fresh eggs are going to be great, wish I could do something like that. Take
    care

  5. azis1100 says:

  7. Moby Dave says:

Hey Cokeman. There is a website called backyardchickens.that has a forum
that could be a lot of help for you.

  8. KydexByParlusk says:

    looking good.. keep us updated!

  9. Rogerthat5x5 says:

Looks like you’ve got a great start. Doing things on the cheap is a way of
life for me. In today’s economy it’s just the smart thing to do. Thanks for
    sharing, take care.

  10. CopingWithTheTimes says:

Great video. I look forward to part 2! How did you come up with that title?

  11. SoCals Preps says:

you saw how I build stuff, you dont want my advice LOL… good luck with
    your project brother man!

  12. Ja72corbin says:

Tar the roof if it leaks .

  13. Tammy Jo says:

hey cokeman. along the bottom of the coop I would dig down and lay the
chicken wire in the ground and cover back up then put the wood down along
the edge. That will help keep critters from digging in. One other thing.
Make sure when you close the front of that off that you fix it where the
owls can’t get into the coop. Lost 2 of my birds this year because of that.
I think that will make a fine place for chickens!! I look forward to part
    2! TJ

  14. TheSunergizer says:

Lesson learned…A hungry animal will spend a lot of time trying to get
    some eats. Build it solid.

  15. mctucky1 says:

Is that your new bugout truck at 2:50? JK. I think you got a good plan
going. I love the natural roof timbers I would like to have a ceiling in my
house with larger timber like that someday. I think your viewers are right
its probably harder to keep the preditors out. I have trouble keeping the
    out of my bird seed..

  16. arkansasprepper says:

    Great project brother, Good luck!

  17. newbeprepper says:

cokeman the only thing i would say is when you get to hanging your
doors/gates if it was me i would make them swing to the inside that way
when you enter it is easer to keep anything from going past you chickens
are not that big of a deal but you never know what the future my bring

  18. MrToeTagger372 says:

Coke, my dad always said he wasn’t worried about the chickens getting out,
it was the mink, or snakes getting in. Wish I could had chickens. Keep
    spreading the msg brother.

  19. theredneck prepper says:

  24. usfreedom22 says:

  25. UBOHICA1 says:

Just some advise I used to mix the 3 way scratch w/ the mash food 50/50 and
it helped with saving some money & the birds were big & healthy I used some
cheap plastic gutter with the end caps & a cheap automatic float hooked to
a hose for water for my birds, then just put a small bit of the plastic
gutter over top of the float to protect it from the birds i used some cheap
chain to hang the feeders about 8 to 10 inches off the ground it kept the
chickens from standing & going potty in the food

  26. Steve Ghertner says:

I have setup a web page and am in the process of posting pictures. I still
need to draw out the schematics. Hopefully, I will get something done in
    the next week and posted.

  27. Jake Chamberlin says:

oh cool and where did you all that and was it pricy?

  28. AMacProOwner says:

If a chicken gets stuck? :-/

  29. Steve Ghertner says:

Thanks morning0raga! We bought our tractor used from a neighbor. The
manufacturer has a website for North America. YouTube won’t let me put the
entire url in the comment, but it is found at omlet.us.

  30. ldmcdona says:

Great idea!! Its simple and it works. I just lost two chickens over the
weekend. I think I can get all these parts. Will you share a wiring
    diagram? ldmcdona@yahoo.com

  31. Steve Ghertner says:

@jchamber4 I have a full description, parts list, schematic, and software
listing on the website listed in the description

  32. Steve Ghertner says:

The arduino monitors motor current. If the door becomes blocked or jammed,
then the motor current will increase. If the current goes over a set
threshold the motor stops, and reverses the door for a short period.

  33. morning0raga says:

Nicely done – as an engineering student, I appreciate the simplicity of the
design ;) Quick question – how did you get the Eglu product in the states
(or Canada)? I checked their website and it seems like they don’t ship
    outside of the UK :’(

  34. Steve Ghertner says:

@jchamber4 I believe I was just simply changing the battery connections in
this video. My other video shows the completed project. I am using an
Arduino microcontroller that monitors the two magnetic switches to
determine when the door gets to the open or closed position. Based on the
time of day and position of the door, the arduino i/o is used to control a
motor controller that runs the motor in the forward or reverse direction to
    open or close the door.

  35. morning0raga says:

Thanks so much for the info :)

  36. Jake Chamberlin says:

how do you get the drill to switch directions automaticaly?

  37. Steve Ghertner says:

@ldmcdona I have finally detailed the build on a web page. I posted the
page address at the end of the video description.

  38. Hof Schnellenberg says:

Hello, how much cost the solution for the eglu cube? I orderd one eglu cube
from uk and i get it the next 2 weeks. Is the eglu cube ok for 6 or 8
    normal chicken?
